Volunteers
Open Source with SLU offers formal volunteer relationships for people who want structured engagement with our projects and community. As a registered volunteer, your contributions are tracked and verified — useful for professional development records, community service documentation, and more.
What Formal Volunteers Do
Volunteers contribute to the same work as our broader community — writing code, testing features, improving documentation, reviewing pull requests, and mentoring. The difference is structure: formal volunteers have defined engagement plans, regular check-ins, and documented activity records.
What You Get
- Verified activity records — documented hours and contributions for professional, academic, or compliance purposes
- Structured onboarding — a clear path into our projects and community practices
- Regular engagement — scheduled touchpoints rather than ad-hoc participation
- References — supervisors who can speak to your contributions and skills
